About Spanish Peaks Library District
The Spanish Peaks Library District is home to the Huerfano County Library which was first established in 1906 by the Walsenburg Woman’s Club. The Huerfano County Library began as a book case filled with donated books in the corner of a room in a Court House. Over time, the Walsenburg Woman’s Club was able to acquire a large collection by donating books themselves and holding fundraisers. Finally, in 1952, thanks to Miriam Pritchard who generously donated her land, the present Huerfano County Library was created and still stands today.
