Originally developed as a part of the Georgia PINES project, Evergreen is the first open-source library automation system designed from scratch for large-scale deployment in very large public library and state-wide consortium environments. It is the only system on the market built from scratch to handle the high-transaction load of a library system as large and complex as PINES (265 libraries) running on a common database. It's the system of choice for groups of libraries desiring to share patron and catalog data under a single system-wide staff and OPAC interface.

In production since Labor Day 2006, Evergreen has enabled new realities of open access, interoperability, and free innovation for the PINES consortium. Beyond that, it has enabled PINES to share their unique technology solutions with the greater library community, establishing themselves as a leader in the library technology sphere.
