Job Title: Interface Designer, Koha
Purpose: This is a temporary, contract position to work on the templates for the Koha Integrated Library System (koha.org) which could lead to a full-time position. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, seasoned, experienced, UI Designer, Graphics Design, and HTML/CSS/JavaScript guru. (S)he should be intimately familiar with the Open Source/Free Software community and how it works, and will be interested in making a substantial contribution to software freedom.
Status: This position reports to the President, Technology.

Requirements Details

Required Experience:

• 3+ years experience in interface design.
  

• 3+ years experience with usability testing and design.

• 3+ years experience with graphics design.
  

• undergraduate college degree, or in lieu of degree, more experience than listed above.

Required Technical Skills:

• Expert knowledge of standards-based HTML/CSS/JavaScript design.

• Experience with usability testing and application of results.

• Ability to write Ajax interfaces that degrade gracefully in older browsers.

• Ability to write cross-browser designs.

• Familiarity with Krug's "Don't Make me Think" design principles.

• Experience with tableless design for non-tabular data.

• Dojo, jquery, YUI experience.

Other Required Skills:

• Ability to work as part of a team and to handle and coordinate contributions from a volunteer core.

• Ability to define and document design practices/conventions for a community-based project (Koha).
  

• Open-minded and tolerant of others.
